The original iPhone revolutionized the smart phone market. The 2nd generation iPhone 3G has been considered the best smart phone ever made. The new iPhone 3GS takes that great phone and adds the few remaining features that the 1st and 2nd generation iPhones were missing, making it arguably the best smart phone and mobile computing device ever made.

The iPhone 3GS has gotten a lot of press, as might be expected for a new release of this market leading device. But it has also had a huge impact. With its new video and video editing capabilities, the new iPhone resulted in a massive upsurge in video uploads from mobile devices to YouTube within just days of the phone's launch.

Where once the Blackberry reigned supreme, the world of big business, the slick and full featured iPhone is finding its way in. Full support for Microsoft Exchange came in the 2nd generation model, and new features add to the current phone only make the iPhone an even more compelling option for enterprise.

For the average consumer, it also doesn't get any better, with a seemingly limitless number of apps available in the App Store and plenty of games -- the iPhone is arguable now a better gaming device than dedicated hand-held games from makers like Nintendo -- no easy feat.

What do you get with an iPhone? The list of features is enormous. According to Apple/AT&T:

  • Speed: Load web pages, launch apps, open attachments, and take pictures faster than ever before. iPhone 3G S makes your entire iPhone experience more responsive.
  • Video: iPhone 3G S now lets you shoot and edit video, then share it via email, MMS*, MobileMe, or YouTube. And still pictures get better with a 3-megapixel camera, built-in autofocus, and a tap to-focus feature.
  • Voice control: With Voice Control, you can use your voice to call a person in your Contacts list, dial a number, or play a song.
  • Digital compass: Find your way with the new digital compass, or watch as it automatically rotates maps to match the direction you're facing.
  • Cut, copy & paste: Cut, copy, and paste words and photos, even between applications. Copy and paste images and content from the web, too.
  • Messages: Use messages to send text, photos, audio, video, and more. Forward a whole message or just the important parts.
  • Spotlight search: Find what you're looking for across your iPhone, all from one place. Spotlight searches all your contacts, email, calendars, and notes, as well as everything in your iPod.
  • Voice memos: Capture a voice memo, a meeting, or any audio recording on the go. Use the built-in iPhone microphone or the mic on your headset to record audio.
  • Landscape keypad: Want more room to type? Rotate iPhone to use a larger keyboard in Mail, Messages, Notes, and Safari.

Those are all new features in the iPhone 3GS. But it also includes all the great features from the iPhone 3G - great touch screen interface, full iPod capability, e-book reader apps, note pad, calculator, and much, much more.
