Canon unquestionably makes superior products, but at a price. For the budget shooter, though, the Nissin Di866 Speedlight for Canon Digital SLR Cameras offers an intriguing option at an attractive price.
Nissin has been a major manufacturer of aftermarket flash units for decades and with their new Di866 Speedlight they are now positioned to offer a reasonably priced alternative to the major manufacturers. In fact, the Di866 even offers some features missing from the big manufacturer's offerings, such as color screen for ease of operation, and an extra built in fill flash within the same unit. This latter is perhaps of only limited utility, but at the attractive price this unit makes it noteworthy that the manufacturer still packaged extra features into the unit. Also, according to Nissin, the Di866 is a good option for "strobist" off camera flash as the unit "can be used jointly with Canon and Nikon original flash as either Master and Remote (Slave)."
