Canon raises the bar in the escalating battle to bring HD video capable DSLRs to market with the Rebel T2i.
The Rebel T2i HD-DSLR (EOS 550D in Europe) is potentially a game changing camera. Previously, Canon captured attention with a string of high-end video capable DSLRS, starting with the 5d mkII, followed by the 7D, and then the 1D mkIV. These cameras thrilled photographers with their amazing ability to shoot in low light with high ISO settings, but also set a new standard for independent filmmakers. The big sensors in these cameras deliver luscious cinematic depth of field at a revolutionary price. But that price has still been measured in the thousands of dollars, putting them out of reach of the average consumer.
Enter the new Rebel T2i. With specs very similar to the EOS 7D, including a very similar APS-C sensor with 18 megapixels, the camera delivers stunning, tack sharp images and the same outstanding video quality of its more expensive siblings in its lineup. The difference in price means consumers will give up some capabilities, like the rugged alloy construction of the more expensive cameras as well as the weathersealing that allows the pro gear to shoot in harsh conditions. That aside, the T2i can be counted on to deliver outstanding results on par with some of these cameras.
