The Kia Borrego is back for 2011, and it is better than ever!
Kia, it seems, was disappointed with the Borrego. Introduced in 2008, the company failed to sell as many of its luxury SUVs as it hoped. Shaky market conditions and uncertainty about fuel prices damaged SUV sales as a whole, and probably seemed to doom the Borrego.
Standing on its own, however, the Borrego was a compelling alternative in the luxury SUV market, and the 2011 Borrego comes ready to carve out a niche for itself. Well equipped and attractively priced, it should be a major competitor.
What do you get for your money? First, power. Even at the entry level, the Borrego features a hard charging V6 engine producing a whopping 276 horsepower. That's enough for both spirited performance and for towing. As for the latter, the Borrego is rated, with this engine, to tow as much as 5,000 lbs!
Even at the entry level, goodies abound. Sirius satellite radio? Check. USB port? Check. Tire pressure monitoring system? Check. Downhill brake control? Check.
Bump up the EX and you get all this and more. The "more" notably includes a ground pounding 337 HP V8. That's right, in a Kia! That might get you a speeding ticket if you're not careful and it certainly holds its own in towing capacity, able to pull a full 7,500-lb load. The price for a nicely equipped luxury Borrego Limited with this engine starts at $39,995 for the 4wd model. If you don't need 4wd but want the luxuries, the 2wd model starts at 37,995.
While it is possible to hit the price stratosphere (for a Kia anyway) by purchasing a fully equipped Borrego, there model offers something for everyone. And starting out at a modest price makes this luxury SUV a pleasing option.
