Though it has now been supplanted in the Apple line-up by aluminum iMacs with updated internals, the original white iMac is still a great bargain for the budget shopper in the used computer market.
The white form factor iMac was a superb, game-changing computer when it was released only a couple of years ago. And while Apple has updated the iMac line with new and more powerful models, if you are a Mac bargain hunter, the white iMac is a pretty good buy.
According to Apple:
"Cast your gaze on the ultimate eye-opening experience: the new faster, bigger, and brighter iMacs. Starting at under $1000, the most personal of personal computers comes out packing a powerful punch. That's thanks to the new 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor, you'll find in each and every new iMac."
These machines are solid performers for most tasks. While they came with only 1 gb of RAM standard, they are easy to upgrade, and doing so really unleashes their performance potential. Fully equipped with the iLife suite, they are great for all around use, and perform well as an entertainment system as they include the elegant and handy Apple remote. And they have a nice little magnetic hot spot on the side that serves a great place to store the remote when it is not in use, a feature lacking in the newer iMacs. Attention to detail like this makes these earlier Intel powered iMacs a great choice even today.
