If you want a performance desktop for high-level graphic arts, video and audio projects, then the Mac Pro is hard to beat.
One of the most powerful desktop computers available at any price, the Mac Pro is the perfect choice for graphic arts, video and audio professionals who depend on high performance processing to speed up their workflow and increase their productivity. These expensive machines are highly expandable and feature top of the line Intel processors. According to Apple, the new Mac Pro features "next-generation Intel architecture.
"With four cores on one die and an integrated memory controller, the new Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processor boosts performance nearly 2x," in the Mac Pro, according to the manufacturer. In addition, Apple says: "A completely new interior makes it even easier to add up to 32GB of memory, four PCI Express expansion cards, and up to 4TB of hard drive storage."
As for configurations, the basic Mac Pro comes equipped with a 2.66 ghz quad core Intel Xeon processor, 3 gb of RAM, 640 GB of hard disk space, and an NVIDIA GeForce 120 GT 120 graphics card. All that comes at a price of $2,499 from Apple. For a few hundred dollars more, Apple gives you 8-core processing with dual 2.26 ghz Intel Xeon processors, 6 gb of RAM. The Mac Pro can be upgraded even more to dual 2.93 ghz Intel Xeon processors, and a large variety of other configuration options are available.
All of this comes at a price, however. While the entry level version checks in at an already stout price, exercising many of the configuration options can quickly inflate the bottom line. But if price is no object, the Mac Pro delivers ultimate computing performance.
